The Discreet Heiress:
“One doesn’t want to attract the attention of pick pockets and the such. The Heiress finds a twin set and pearls suitably discreet for travelling overseas. In Copenhagen she gets invited to a party where she is offered some weed. She accepts, mostly to be polite and ends up in bed with a hippie, mostly because she got stoned. She has now traded her pearls for pottery class, but has yet to let her parents know.”
Designer, artist Helle Robertson lives and works from her roof top studio in central Malmö, with a collection of art, designer shoes and a bicycle, in addition to piles of what others regard as junk, which Helle regards as raw material for art and design.
Helle is originally a traditionally trained men’s tailor and pattern cutter, turned fashion designer who over time realized she was unable to stick to working with just textiles and clothes. Being a true maker and crafts person he has since explored materials as diverse as fruit, paper, candle wax and wood and she has expanded her repertoire from only fashion to include interior design objects and art. All with the common denominator of being discarded materials. “I love the challenge of turning rubbish into something desirable. My process always starts with the material. It’s about finding out its specific properties and what they are suitable for. That process starts a storm of creativity in my head and the ideas I want to try out are endless.
