Guillermo De Angelis
Argentinian born Guillermo De Angelis is a visual artist and photographer who found his path in art through a journey interweaving design, architecture, and philosophy. In the early stages of his career, De Angelis explored colour as an expressive resource, capturing in it the vitality and emotional richness of each shot. However, over time, and in favour of synthesis, he began to strip colour away.
By removing chromatic information from the image, he directs the focus towards structure, textures, and contrasts, allowing each photograph to become a moment where the essential prevails over the apparent.
All his works are organised into projects, each comprising between fifteen and twenty images, supported by a conceptual framework that defines each of his proposals. Beyond the visible theme, what inspires De Angelis to capture a photograph could be a melody, a book, or a painting.
“I cannot venture into one-way streets of images or words. When I read, thousands of images come to my mind, and when I see an image, a skein of words appears in much the same way. I cannot separate them, nor do I believe it is enriching, as someone once said: ‘It is interesting to consider whether words are not essential to thought.”
His projects flow through titles such as; Sketches, What the flowers keep silent, Absence and Photography, The air between the clouds. In De Angelis’s work, words are more than just titles: they are an extension of the visual message, an evocative key that multiplies the possible interpretations of each image. Rather than merely describing, the words open a doorway to deeper meanings, guiding the viewer to explore the echoes within each scene. In this way, language and image intertwine, imbuing the composition with a delicate expression that resonates within the observer.
After his initial exhibitions in Argentina, De Angelis had the opportunity to present his work in Nara, Japan—an experience that brought him closer to Eastern culture and left an indelible mark on his art. His work has been praised for its ability to evoke a poetic narrative, with compositions reminiscent of Sumie painting, where each stroke is imbued with the essence of what it represents, leaving space for mystery and personal interpretation.
Known for his skill in capturing the essence of simplicity and for his economical use of technical resources, De Angelis’s work has been exhibited in museums and galleries across Japan, Austria, Spain, Mexico, and the United States.
He has now resided in Barcelona for the past nine years, where he continues to develop his work.
The Nordic Art Agency are proud to represent the photography of Guillermo De Angelis in the Nordics. We shall be exhibiting his work in the gallery from December 6th until February 2025 in our new Nordic Art Agency gallery location.
SKETCHES
In those photographic journeys, the delayed snapshots transform into silent sentinels, standing guard between the beginning and the culmination of a project. Despite their imperfections, these images reveal their essence as the foundations upon which the final concept is built. Scaffolds that support the construction of ideas, where authenticity emerges from unfocused motives, from hesitant traces in unstable perspectives.
The titles are intended to give each image the freedom to be more than mere lines and shadows, layering meanings like a game of mirrors. The pretension of language in its formation, much like the shapes in the images. The grace of the imperfect, the ephemeral, the unfinished.
Confessions, an uncertain simulation in the twilight of the blank page. Each attempt is a modest sketch of what could be and will never fully become.

Flowers
WHAT THE FLOWERS KEEP SILENT
In the face of a hostile environment, flowers stand as silent sentinels—fragile and tiny, yet they persist against all odds. Each flower is an act of resistance, a conscious declaration of its own transience and the inevitable sorrow of time.
It is, at its core, an homage to the small and tenacious, to that quiet persistence that, asking nothing in return, transforms the world's indifference with its presence
“One of the most attractive things about flowers is their beautiful reserve."
- Henry David Thoreau
ARTIST STATEMENT
“After exploring architecture, philosophy, and design, I plunged into photography. I approach the image like a sketch, hinting with clarity, presenting without describing. In this quiet work, I find beauty in modesty, a beauty that invites one to pause and take another look. These images are not meant to make an immediate impression; they require the viewer to draw near, to look. almost silently, as if peering through a keyhole. Rather than capturing what I see, I strive to reveal what lies hidden among the details, in the spaces, in the subtleties.
In a visual world brimming with intensity, I favour the gentleness that does not yield to immediacy but lingers and becomes a moment of respite. With minimal resources, I aim to offer a moment of contemplation, an invitation to see beyond and find value in what seeks to remain unnoticed.”
