Masha Bass

Masha Bass is a Paris based textile designer and artist who was always fascinated by travel and the arts. She received a BA in Industrial Design and a Master’s Degree in Accessories Design from the Domus Academy in Milan.

Her talent was recognised at the Domus Academy and Masha became part of the prestigious TOD’S design team, where she was involved in the creation of a new design-language for their jewellery and textile line. In 2009 Masha moved to Paris where she worked for the Renault Group applying both of her educational background in industrial and fashion design. She created accessories for a limited edition series of vehicles, participating in significant collaborations.

More collaborations followed in Masha’s career as a designer with various luxury brands within the Studio of the Massimo Zucchi Design group including Rolex, GRAFF and Samsung.

In 2014 her relocation to Japan complete altered Masha’s creative philosophy, which was reflected in her design perception. By understanding Japanese culture through the language of contemporary art and the inspiration found in Tokyo’s street fashion, Masha’s creative artistic journey was deeply impacted.

Masha Bass I Suspended No.1

In Paris in 2017, Masha created her own brand design MARUBASHI and lived between Seoul and Paris, learning craftsmanship from Korean makers and finding the best suppliers for MARUBASHI. She developed an ecological artisanal jewellery collection using merino wool balls: the material, that attracted Masha’s attention as one of the most underestimated material in design and textile art.

Since this project, Masha as a designer, found a new passion for wool and craftsmanship. She decides to use this two things as the main bases for her art creations, mixing this new concept with all the background she had taken while traveling around the world.

In 2022 in Gothenburg the first MARUBASHI Textile Collection was launched working with local wool suppliers. This fuelled her interest in working on a dedicated art collection and in 2023 Masha established her studio-atelier in Paris.

Suspended No. 1 is the first in a small series of works exploring Masha’s technique and understanding or material, design and elegance.

We are delighted to represent the artworks of Guest Artist Masha Bass exclusively at the Nordic Art Agency. Currently you can view a new series of works from the Suspension series as part of our International Group Exhibition until January 31st 2025.
